Inquiry - Change

In Social Science, we have been learning about Change. We learnt to understand why the past is important to people. Last Thursday, we had a trip to the Ferrymead Heritage Park where we spent the day in the 1950s, near 70 years ago. When we got there we changed into olden day clothes. The girls loved their dresses especially the bonnets. We sat in the old classroom where all the children sat in a row, boys and girls on each side. The teacher, Mr Brown used blackboard with white chalk to write. He also had a whip and stick. We were so pleased when he said he wouldn't use those on us. We also got to bake cookies and learnt to set the dining table, table manners and also some of the kitchen things people used to use. They also had toys the children used to play and we got to play with them, too. Lastly, we watched a movie called The gang (The little rascals) in black and white. It was a busy day but we had great fun!

Mr Brown checked and stamp our work.

  1. We went to Ferrymead in Term 1 and dressed up in the same clothes as you, but not the bonnets. We have some questions for you;
    #Did you go there on a bus? - Adele
    #Did you make scones or something else? - Craig
    #Did you get to play on the playground? - Theo
    #Did you get to go in the fire station? - Theo

  3. Kia ora Te Ara Whakatau
    I was so excited for you when I heard that you were going to Ferrymead. It reminded me of when we went a few years ago. We all really enjoyed it and learned so much about how life must have been many years ago. One of my favourite parts was the school and the house where we did some cleaning and laundry. How amazing how things have changed. What were the highlights for you?

Letter of the Week

This year we are doing phonics in our homerooms. Kiwi class looks at two letters and their matching sounds every week. Weka and Pukeko classes work together on one letter of the week. Each week we have a letter of the week wall where we display all the things we can find that begin with our letter of the week. Last week our letter was H and we had some fun having Harlin Haines wearing a hat on our h wall. Too cute not to share! This week our letter is J so get your thinking caps on Weka and Pukeko classes, what words do you know that start with J?
