Carter's fantastic reading skills!

Carter went out for a walk today and was using his reading skills to read the different signs. Tino pai Carter I love that you are using your reading skills in different places!  I wonder if anyone else has spotted some signs they can read on a walk?

  1. Carter this is a cool activity to do. Did you see any road signs or street signs or was it just road work signs?

  2. You looked like you had a great time Carter. Did you also notice how all the signs are different shapes and sizes? Christchurch always has lots of road work signs and cones.

  3. Good work, Carter! Reading skill is really important to us because it helps us keep safe and what to do. We have many signs around us. I wonder how many signs you could see on your walk.

  4. What a good idea Carter - get fresh air and read at the same time. Maybe next time you could do maths and count the orange cones...we have heaps here in Christchurch!

Reading

In the Junior Hub we've been using many different apps. We used book creator to make a book during reading time. Two groups were working on sounding out the words we get stuck on. Every time we come to a word we don't know we just have to get our mouths ready to say the first sound. The other group was hunting for high frequency words and this time it was the word 'the'.

Letter of the Week

This year we are doing phonics in our homerooms. Kiwi class looks at two letters and their matching sounds every week. Weka and Pukeko classes work together on one letter of the week. Each week we have a letter of the week wall where we display all the things we can find that begin with our letter of the week. Last week our letter was H and we had some fun having Harlin Haines wearing a hat on our h wall. Too cute not to share! This week our letter is J so get your thinking caps on Weka and Pukeko classes, what words do you know that start with J?
