On Monday Te Rōpū Māia and Te Rōpū Auaha worked on a STEM activity. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. We used marshmallows and spaghetti to build the highest free standing tower. We were in groups of 3 or 4. We were only allowed to use the materials we were given. It was hard to try and not eat the marshmallows. It was also hard to try and make it stand by itself. At the end we were allowed to eat the marshmallows. We are looking forward to doing more STEM activities. Have you got any ideas of fun STEM activities you have done which we might like?

This looks like a lot of fun, you were all so busy and engaged when I saw you working on it too. A suggestion might be to see who can make the strongest bridge, using only a few resources...
ReplyDeleteGreat idea. We are all looking forward to doing a STEM activity next week:)
DeleteHi Mrs Ryan, I really liked how your kids did really good for the project and I really liked how you added pictures to show what the kids were doing. Next time you could add a video of a person saying what the kids were doing.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea Kylie. Thanks for checking out our blog. Have you done any STEM activities?
DeleteKia ora Te Ara Whakatau, what a cool blog post. Thanks for sharing. This looks like a lot of fun, maybe could be a challenge that I try with my class at some stage. It sounds tough, maybe some experts could come over and help teach us. Who was able to build the highest tower? I'm glad Mrs Ryan let you eat the marshmallows at the end!
ReplyDeleteThank you for commenting on our blog. We scoffed the marshmallows at the end! There were none left! Connor, Cody, & Thomas, as well as, Bea, Raewyn & Trisanah had the tallest towers. They were 27cm tall! We don't think the seniors will be able to make a tower this tall! Are you up for the challenge Seniors?
