Te Rōpū Kura Pounamu, Te Rōpū Whakaute and Te Rōpū Wawata have been learning about Maui and the Sun over the last few weeks. This has been lots of fun and we have learned so much. This week we decided to write about the story for our writing time as well. I was so impressed to see the students in Whakaute planning and writing their stories. Two of our writing groups worked together to plan and write their stories on big pieces of paper in pairs or threes. I was blown away by the writing that Blessinglonise, Milla and Isabellah did together. Below you can see how well they worked together using the word card to write their sentences. Ka pai girls this was amazing collaboration!
This year we are doing phonics in our homerooms. Kiwi class looks at two letters and their matching sounds every week. Weka and Pukeko classes work together on one letter of the week. Each week we have a letter of the week wall where we display all the things we can find that begin with our letter of the week. Last week our letter was H and we had some fun having Harlin Haines wearing a hat on our h wall. Too cute not to share! This week our letter is J so get your thinking caps on Weka and Pukeko classes, what words do you know that start with J?
Te Mauru e taki nei from South Hornby School here. Jacob said "I think it's good you worked together." Matthew said "Your drawing is lovely." Adele asked "What did you learn about Maui and the sun?" and Ben said "It is cool how you wrote about Maui and the Sun, I wrote about Maui at my Kindy."
ReplyDeleteThanks for taking the time to read our post and for your kind words! To answer Adele we were learning about the story of Maui and the Sun because we are learning how to tell stories. We watched the video on youtube and did lots of talking about it, so we did some writing to show what we learned :-)
DeleteKia ora Te Ara Whakatau, what did you learn about Maui and the Sun? We've been learning all about Ranginui and Papatūānuku, we had fun too. I is fun learning about Māori Pūrakau!
ReplyDeleteKia ora! We learnt about how Maui and his brothers wanted to slow the sun because it was going too fast, they couldn't get any work done! We really enjoyed learning about Maui and the Sun so we're glad that you enjoyed learning about some other legends :-)
