Magician Bakers: Charlotte and Maddison

Today (Thursday) one of our challenges was to bake something.
I had made red velvet cupcakes and wanted to see what you all might make.

Check out the amazing bakers Maddison and Charlotte. I really love the words Charlotte uses as she puts in the baking soda. Maddison can  mix quite fast, hope your arm isn't too sore Maddison!

The girls have made HOKEY POKEY and have shared their recipe with us:
5 tablespoons of sugar, 2 tablespoons of golden syrup, once that is all dissolved, boil for 2mins. Take off heat and stir in 1 teaspoon of baking soda

Thanks for sharing girls, I bet it tastes yummy!! What a treat you get to have. I love how happy and proud you look.
I am going to give this a try, I wonder who else might like to make it?

  1. Wow girls that really is baking magic! I love how you said the magic word when you put in the baking soda. I'm sure it was delicious! Thanks for sharing the recipe too, I bet it is nicer than the hokey pokey you buy because you made it yourself :-)

  3. I loved how you worked together to make hokey pokey. Have you made hokey pokey biscuits? You need to use magic to make them too! Keep up the awesome baking.

Letter of the Week

This year we are doing phonics in our homerooms. Kiwi class looks at two letters and their matching sounds every week. Weka and Pukeko classes work together on one letter of the week. Each week we have a letter of the week wall where we display all the things we can find that begin with our letter of the week. Last week our letter was H and we had some fun having Harlin Haines wearing a hat on our h wall. Too cute not to share! This week our letter is J so get your thinking caps on Weka and Pukeko classes, what words do you know that start with J?

Reading

In the Junior Hub we've been using many different apps. We used book creator to make a book during reading time. Two groups were working on sounding out the words we get stuck on. Every time we come to a word we don't know we just have to get our mouths ready to say the first sound. The other group was hunting for high frequency words and this time it was the word 'the'.
