Juliette told us that she gets ideas of her stories from a word. At the start of this video, you will see how the story 'That's not a Hippotamus.' came about. She then shows us how to do the hippopotamus dance to find the hippopotamus, before reading the book to us. We had great fun and it was awesome!

    Wow, what a wonderful story. I'm so sad that I was away when Juliette came to visit. We have so many of her books at school, but I suspect this one could be favourite!

    This looks like such a cool event. I didn't know that she was coming to school and probably would have tried to sneak in and have a watch and a listen. What a great idea to record her visit so that it can be shared with everyone.

Letter of the Week

This year we are doing phonics in our homerooms. Kiwi class looks at two letters and their matching sounds every week. Weka and Pukeko classes work together on one letter of the week. Each week we have a letter of the week wall where we display all the things we can find that begin with our letter of the week. Last week our letter was H and we had some fun having Harlin Haines wearing a hat on our h wall. Too cute not to share! This week our letter is J so get your thinking caps on Weka and Pukeko classes, what words do you know that start with J?

Reading

In the Junior Hub we've been using many different apps. We used book creator to make a book during reading time. Two groups were working on sounding out the words we get stuck on. Every time we come to a word we don't know we just have to get our mouths ready to say the first sound. The other group was hunting for high frequency words and this time it was the word 'the'.
