Caelin the Scientist!

I have used the word creative to describe Caelin's home learning so many times, but he continues to be an incredible creative and inventive superstar! He started the day by listening to the bear hunt story and draw a picture of a bear. Then he became scientist Caelin and continued his freezing experiments.

Below you can see that he experimented with freezing different substances in water. He worked with his sister Alyxis and froze water with Baking Soda (BS), Salt (S) and Flour and Salt (F S). They all thought the one with baking soda was really interesting and I think it does too!

Caelin then chose to add warm and cold water to the Baking Soda ice cube in a bowl to see how it melted. Caelin says he wants to do more experiments as he wants to be a scientist when he's older. With experiments like this and your amazing creativity I can definitely see you as scientist Caelin!

  2. Kia ora Caelin.
It's Miss Waho here. I really liked seeing you when Alyxis was on her class Meet. The freezer experiments you guys are doing look really cool. So cool they are cold. The poppet one looked really cool too. I wonder what happens if you freeze MnMs and lemonade together. Maybe you and Alyxis could try it and let me know. It seems like it would be nice.

  3. That's a cool science experiment you did, Caelin, with your sister, Alyxis. I am impressed with how you experimented like real scientists do. Which one made the ice cubes melt faster? You could perhaps write about what happened and how that happened like scientists do. Thanks for sharing!

  4. Caelin I love that you have become the budding little scientist and how cool that your older sister is supporting you. If you have vinegar at home you could place a frozen baking soda ice cube in it and see what happens. Thanks for sharing your discoveries and experiments with us!

Letter of the Week

This year we are doing phonics in our homerooms. Kiwi class looks at two letters and their matching sounds every week. Weka and Pukeko classes work together on one letter of the week. Each week we have a letter of the week wall where we display all the things we can find that begin with our letter of the week. Last week our letter was H and we had some fun having Harlin Haines wearing a hat on our h wall. Too cute not to share! This week our letter is J so get your thinking caps on Weka and Pukeko classes, what words do you know that start with J?
